Did your New Year’s resolutions include spending more time at the gym? Drinking more water? Or both?
While hydration is necessary for our health–especially during those new workouts, but also as part of our everyday intake–how we get that water is important too. According to the website Ban the Bottle, the average American annually uses 167 water bottles, but only recycles 38. In other words, only 1 of every 5 water bottles is recycled. Those not recycled just add to our waste stream and waste valuable energy resources in their manufacturing.
But there’s an easy fix! Use a refillable water bottle when you head to the gym. Keep a filled, reuseable bottle handy in the fridge to grab and go. Stow an empty reusable bottle in your car, backpack or tote bag so you always have one handy to fill. You can find many options to suit your needs: glass, stainless steel, and BPA-free plastics. Not sure what kind is best for you? Here’s a link to some of the best options according to Real Simple magazine.
So go find that perfect refillable bottle and then spread the word to your family and friends. Here are more bottled water facts to help educate them.
